6 Common Workplace Injuries

We work with a lot of clients who sustained injuries in the workplace. There’s a common misconception that any accident sustained in the workplace is due to negligence on the employer’s behalf. This isn’t always the case and sometimes accidents and injuries just happen. While there are a great number of workplace injuries that can occur, these are some of the more common injuries you’ll find in a workplace.

Repetitive Motion Injuries

Repetitive motion injuries are usually caused over time. Typically, they aren’t serious, but they can cause further, more serious effects if not treated. Many warehouse jobs require repetitive motions, and, after building up over time, these motions can cause tension and lead to muscle pains.

Vehicle Accidents

Some jobs, like delivery positions or warehouse forklift operators, require that workers operate vehicles while on the clock. If a vehicle accident occurs while on the clock, the employer might not always be liable.

Falling Object Injuries

These are unfortunate, but do happen. When an object is dropped by someone else or falls from a shelf and hits an employee, it can cause serious damage, especially if the employee is hit on the head.

Overexertion

Many jobs are physically demanding, and these can often come with fewer than necessary breaks. When there is pressure to over-perform, employees may overexert themselves and can injure themselves as a direct result.

Machine Entanglement

In some cases, those working with machines can find themselves victim to an injury caused by the machines themselves. In many cases, proper training can help prevent these types of injuries but proper machine maintenance can also keep employees safe.

Slips and Falls

Slips and falls are usually the result of walking on wet and slippery floors. We’ve all slipped in the kitchen on spilled liquid, but when a fall occurs at the workplace due to a spill that wasn’t probably cleaned up, it can leave lasting effects.

If you or someone you know has sustained an injury at the workplace, it’s important that they understand their legal rights. Nobody should have to deal with lasting injuries sustained while working to make a living. Every working environment should be a safe one, and it’s the responsibility of the employer to maintain that safety.
